Descripción Larga

The COVID-19 crisis is accelerating certain processes derived from globalisation and digitalisation that remained latent or scarcely visible, yet were set in motion now decades ago. Destabilisation, social isolation with major limitations to movement, the hyper-connectivity of our monitored capsules of comfort, and the suspension of daily life and work’s typical operations for many in many regions are an excellent catalyst and accelerator for post-capitalism’s digitalisation processes. One of this convergence’s most important factors has to do with the art market, the value chain, and structural changes to the global economic system. Beyond the latest gold rush provoked by the recent boom in NFT or ‘non-fungible token’ sales and rocketing cryptocurrency prices -even if difficult due to the technical complexity and noise-, we can catch a glimpse of the frenzied search for a way of transforming works of digital art and other collectable objects into unique yet public assets that are verifiable and easily sold using blockchain. Despite the current system being quiet inefficient, enormously complex to the common user, and environmentally costly by design, NFTs may be blazing the trail that will afford digital creators and artists greater autonomy, helping them incorporate the conditions of their work into their practice, determining how it is shown, distributed, sold, and edited.

0xf5c0656f1e95b7d9e43e683a83deef70e777ad63 aims to distribute a digital piece exploring the new distribution and work conditions that new global open-code platforms have to offer decentralised applications. Pre-determined ownership conditions can be programmed in their own metadata, opening up artistic practice to a distributed cooperative economy where a different sense of ownership is given for its production. Ownership of the artistic “object” can be changed to monetiseable dynamic forms or to allow for fractional ownership. The digital piece will be able to be accessed from anywhere in the world, and itself will carry an internal code to control its digital value and ensure that it works as programmed by the smart contract.
