Amancio Gonzalez, born in Portugalete, started his dance studies at the age of 20 in Las Arenas, Bizkaia, with Ion Beitia. Aged 22 he went to continue his studies at the Rosella Hightower International Dance Centre in Cannes, with José Ferrán. Two years later he started
his professional career at the Scottish Ballet, in Glasgow. After dancing in several classical and contemporary dance troupes, he started working with William Forsythe, in 1999, at the Frankfurt Ballett and at the The Forsythe Company, until it closed in 2015. During the following two years he was a member of Dance On Ensemble, in Berlin. Since the year 2018 he works as a guest professor and freelance dancer.
During his years as a dancer he has worked in parallel as a ballet teacher and taking to the stage works by William Forsythe with several professional dance troupes, such as the Ballet Frankfurt, The Forsythe Company, Pina Bausch Tanz Theater Wuppertal, Gotteborg
Danskompani, L’opera de Lyon, Hubbard Street Dance Company, Skånes Dans Theater, Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Norrdans, Joffrey ballet, Ballet Kiel, Ballet Basel, Cullberg Ballet, etc.
Thanks to his boundless curiosity and desire to continue evolving as a dancer, he started to work on the pointe technique in 2016. After 2 years of discovery work, Blue Prince Black Sheep was born, a 30-minute pointe technique solo co-produced by Festspielhaus Hellerau and Unterwegstheater. He currently continues to perform this solo in addition to one of the original versions of The Dying Swan, choreographed by Michael Fokine.
