Archipelago, Joanna Hogg, United Kingdom, 2010, 114'
Archipelago takes us on a British upper-class family vacation in the Isles of Scilly in south-west England. The family - made up of Patricia and her two children - have rented a house for a period of two weeks before Edward begins an 11-month trip to Africa. And they will share these holidays with Rose, the cook who works in the house, and her neighbor Christopher Baker, painter in fiction and reality.
It is clear that there is an old unsolved family problem, but due to the characters' tendency to inhibit their emotions, it will not be easy to understand what is happening. What Hogg offers us is a fresh and provocative portrait of the emotional crisis of a family through their disturbing vacation.
