Tabakalera presents the third edition of the artist training programme pitched as an experimental gap in space in time for facilitating transformation. The programme invites participants to step out of their work rhythms or from the practice itself to contemplate their work from a distance, for a period of time, and to evaluate it from a different perspective.
Itziar Okariz and Jon Mikel Euba will jointly deliver this workshop which is framed as a dialogue between artists. The session will reflect on the role of plastic languages in producing symbols, and their use as a tool for transforming these. As part of an exercise that analyses technical questions around artistic practice, each of the artists will set specific tasks which highlight the similarities and differences in their approaches.
The workshop aims to help participants to develop and reflect on their own work. The session will emphasise strategies for reflection and self-critique, and which enable individual subjectivity, increase participants’ freedom and encourage their motivation to work.
Itziar Okariz and Jon Mikel Euba will deliver this training programme collaboratively whilst staying true to their own approaches, thus giving the participants diverse approaches and practices to work with.
The programme is aimed at anyone with a firm wish to create and produce something. It will strengthen aspects of their existing process or help them to create one. The workshop requires no specific experience in any discipline, irrespective of where participants are in their professional and artistic journey.
The training session will take place in the Artist's Space in Tabakalera from July 8th to 27th. Participants will enjoy access to this common area and will also have their own studio, including after the workshop has finished, from July 28th through to August 17th. The second phase of the training is an important albeit optional part of the programme.
Participation and registration: a maximum of 15 artists will be selected. The call is open from April 15th until May 12th. Candidates will be notified of the outcome on May 17th. The guest artists Itziar Okariz and Jon Mikel Euba will make the selection.
