The title of the project is based on a concept from physical cosmology used to define a finite region of space which connects such a quantity of mass that no particle, not even light, can escape it. It is also the title of a graphic novel by Charles Burns about a mysterious sexually transmitted disease that causes grotesque mutations in adolescents.
It additionally represents part of a research project framed around two programs that were devised within the context of the cold war and that consist of the study and application of nuclear weapons for peaceful purposes.
