San Sebastian 2016 gave dancer and choreographer Jone San Martin carte blanche to enrich the European Capital of Culture programme, and in this last artistic proposal she designed, the San Sebastian native presents two installations from both Ryoji Ikeda and William Forsythe. Situated in adjoining rooms, both focus on the body's consciousness in the space.

Ryoji Ikeda: "A"
As an electronic music composer and visual artist, Ikeda contemplates in "A" the interplay between the visitor's movement and sound in a single space. This interaction can be felt in the form of vibrations.

At different frequencies, four speakers simultaneously emit the musical note la, which has been used throughout history as a universal reference point for tuning orchestras. The superposition of these tones will produce an invisible sea of waves that will resonate constantly but in a varying form according to the movement of the people present in the room.

William Forsythe: "Nowhere and Everywhere at the Same Time No. 4"

One of the most important and influential choreographers of our time, Forsythe, presents "Nowhere and Everywhere at the Same Time No. 4", a space that is at first glance impenetrable, with hundreds of pendulums hanging from the ceiling to the floor. Visitors are free to attempt a navigation this environment, but are requested to avoid coming in contact with any of the swinging pendulums. If they can.

Forsythe's work invites the public to concentrate on their own body's movement in order to move through this choreography installation, all to the rhythm of sound coming from Ikeda's work in the room next door.

The development and international exhibition of Choreographic Objects by William Forsythe is made possible with the generous support of Susanne Klatten
