Close Up, Abbas Kiarostami, Iran, 1990, OV with spanish subtitles, 98’.

Kiarostami’s movie Close Up is worth every minute.  The film starts as almost trivial pseudo-documentary detective story about a simple worker in Teheran who attempts to escape his hardships by taking on the identity of his favorite film director. Kiarostami noticed this story in the daily newspaper and reenacted it with its actual people. As the drama unfolds, however, it leads up to a far reaching question about the transformative power movies can have on humans. To us this is of high interest because our upcoming movie will  focus on exactly this question to renegotiate “the walls” that separate humans from their most significant worlds in movies and question the social order that governs these walls.
