The Tabakalera cinema proposes during September a dialogue with the Donostia Awards 2018 given by the San Sebastian International Film Festival: Judi Dench, Hirokazu Kore-eda and Danny DeVito.
Last year we began the prologue to the San Sebastian International Film Festival with the screening of The Room (Tommy Wiseau, 2003), this year, the Tabakalera cinema proposes during September a dialogue with the Donostia Awards. The goal is to honor the honored, screening films that are fundamental in their career and to offer the city the possibility to watch again -or discover- in the big screen.
Since playing Ophelia in Hamlet at The Old Vic Theatre almost 60 years ago, Judi Dench has garnered wide popular and critical admiration for a career marked by outstanding performances in both classical and contemporary roles. To open this special prologue seasons we have chosen the film that gave Dench her first nomination to the Oscar Awards, Mrs. Brown.
Besides, we recover the first fiction feature film by Hirokazu Koreeda, Maboroshi no hikari, presented in the Venice Festival in 1995 and awarded with the Best director prize.
And finally, gigantic double session paying tribute to Danny DeVito in two of his most charismatic roles: Twins and Batman Returns. His filmography as actor, director and producer is enough for an entire series (from his beginning in the tv and the Golden Globe for his role in the Taxi tv show to his producer work in two great pop classics as Reality Bites or Pulp Fiction), but we wanted to review his most popular essence, the closest one to the public, the one that shared with us many videoclub sessions or after-lunch tv hours during years.
Therefore, double applause for the awarded ones and a tribute in the unique way a cinema could pay tribute to his own ones: cinema, cinema, cinema, cinema…
