Double bill with two classics of contemporary cinema. On the one hand, Gus Van Sant’s masterpiece, Palme d’Or and Best Director at Cannes, and one of those films that marked an entire era and created a visual imaginary that is now forever etched in the history of great cinema. Based on the shootings carried out by two teenagers at Columbine High School, Van Sant observes, follows, portrays, shows and wonders out loud about those high-school kids whose lives are just about to be hit by tragedy forever.
The session is complemented with a film that served as a reference and inspiration for Gus Van Sant: Alan Clarke’s Elephant, produced by Danny Boyle, one of the crudest, most uncompromising studies about violence in Northern Ireland in its darkest times.
