In this workshop you’ll learn the basic techniques for making a fanzine. We’ll look at the whole process: conception, contents, scanning, page composition, layout, reproduction, binding and distribution. Basing ourselves on the origins of the concept (magazines created by fans and followers) we’ll make our own fan fanzine.
We'll make an introduction to our story and go back to the origins of the term (fan+maga-zine) to create our own. In this workshop, we'll explore the whole world of the flirtatious remark, flattery, amorous compliments, gallantry, praise, spellbound attention and fascination. We’ll look at the whole process: concept, contents, scanning, page composition, layout, reproduction, binding and distribution. And there will be lists, lots of lists.
During four meetings of three hours we will be employed between all at the production of one collective publicación/fanzine. From a brief historical introduction we will raise an exercise as axis to learn in "a" "active" way the steps to continue for the materialization of our fanzine.
The workshop will have the following structure:
-Presentation, historical introduction and examples of different types of publications to understand the possibilities of the format and reproduction. We will raise the first part of the exercise, every participant will elaborate a list, will choose a set of words that will serve him as point of item to continue working.
-Accomplishment of the graphical content of the fanzine departing from this list... we will not say any more… but there will be surprises… we will offer different possibilities to work, to draw, to write, to do collages, etc. Any reproducible thing in black and white.
-We will scan the images/texts, and every person will prepare his image / text with photoshop. We will do a physical model, from there maquetaremos in indesign and will prepare the document to stamp.
-We will print, will fold up and staple. Once our fanzine is ready we will encourage you to distribute it.
We understand the fanzine as free, flexible and cheap object to say, to count or to share what is and conceive the workshop as space to experiment from this freedom, the part to entertain and to learn ourselves he practises to materialize it. Anyone can and must practise the fanzine. We will wait for you!
