Participants at this workshop will develop a simple 2D arcade game using Unity, one of the most commonly used engines on all platforms for its versatility and ease of learning and use.
We'll start by reviewing the Unity interface and the tools it offers, familiarising ourselves with the environment we're mostly going to be working in and then move on to the first phase of development.
In the first phase, we'll discuss the idea, concept and mechanics of the game, fit it into the theme framework we're going to use and then start using Asperite to create the artwork for the game, which will consist of a range of sprites/drawings for characters and backgrounds. Once the graphic part is ready, we'll import it into Unity and start designing the game scene, and then get down to programming the game’s interactivity in C#. When everything is working properly, we'll go one step further and integrate sound for the different events in the game.
At this point, all that will be left to do will be to tie up any loose ends and get ready to export the game into an executable format for Windows Linux or Android systems. And at the end of the sessions, you’ll have your own game, created by you, to share and play with anyone you want.
