Descripcion
Gabriel Garcilazo is a visual artist. His work centres on the research and appropriation of documents and information extracted from mass media and visual culture, in order to address daily social issues and phenomena.
He studied the Master in Art at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (2015) and gained a degree in Visual Arts majoring in Contemporary Art and Critique at the Centro Morelense de las Artes (Mexico, 2008).
His exhibitions include Distopías, in the Museo Universitario del Chopo (2017), Divina comedia, in the Galería Jardines de México (2016), Códice Vaquero, in the Centro Cultural Jardín Borda (2015), Ciudades Invisibles, in the Gallery of the Mexican Culture Institute in Miami, Florida (2014), a Collective Show in Casa Maauad[KE1] , Mexico City (2014), and the Scope Art Fair in NY, USA and Basel, Switzerland (2013).
He is currently a member of the National Fund for Culture and Arts (FONCA) and was the winner of the Tenth Ibero Biennial in Puebla and of the First International Arts and Design Biennial of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (2014). He was also the recipient of the FONCA National Grant for Young Artists (2007 and 2010) and was published in the magazine Tierra Adentro no. 172 (2011), and in the mART Catalogue of Emerging Artists (2009-10 edition). His work can be found in the Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil, the Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros, Robert Littman’s collection, the Fundación Noval, the National Autonomous University of Mexico and the Ibero-American University, among others.
