Garbiñe Biurrun

 

In 1982 she graduated with a degree in law from the Donostia-San Sebastian Faculty of Law, part of the University of the Basque Country. She has been a professor of Labour and Social Security Law at the University of the Basque Country since November 1982, teaching in Basque and Spanish. She has been a judge since 1987 and has been working in the field of labour law since 1990. Since 2009, Garbiñe has been President of the Labour Court of the High Court of Justice of the Basque Country. She is a member of the association “Jueces y juezas para la democracia” (“Judges for Democracy”) and has been a member of its state executive and spokesperson in the Basque Country. She is the author of many articles on various legal matters, most notably on the subjects of equality, gender violence, Basque conflict, peace and social rights, etc. and is a member of the University of the Basque Country team to translate the Spanish Constitution into Basque and co-director of the translation of the Labour Procedure Law.

From October 2004 to 2011 she was a member of the Council of Social Excellence of Eusko Ikaskuntza and has been a member of the Advisory Council of the Basque Language since 2007.

President of the Anesvad Foundation since 2013, Garbiñe Biurrun also collaborates in opinion platforms in the written press, radio and television.
