Gerard Horta is an interim adjunct professor and researcher at the University of Barcelona. He holds a PhD in Social Anthropology, and over the last 20 years has conducted field work in Catalonia and Cape Verde (Africa) on urban anthropology and religious anthropology. He has published some 60 scientific articles, books and chapters, both individually and collaboratively, including: De la mística a les barricades (From Mysticism to Barricades) (2001); Cos i revolució. L’espiritisme català o les paradoxes de la modernitat (Body and Revolution. Catalan spiritualism or the Paradoxes of Modernity) (2004); L’espai clos (Closed space) (2004); Rambla del Raval de Barcelona (The Rambla del Raval in Barcelona) (2010); and Hiace. Antropología de las carreteras en la isla de Santiago (Cabo Verde) (Hiace. Anthropology of the Roads in Santiago Island (Cape Verde)) (2014), with D. Malet.

In addition, he has published four collections of poems and two records with the Catalan rock group Triulet.
