Katherine Switzer was a ground-breaker when she became the first woman to run the Boston Marathon. Do you want to destroy clichés and be a Kathrine Switzer of video games?
Enrol in this practical workshop for boys and girls where you’ll design your video game in Unity. Learn the basics of how to design and develop a video game, its storyline and components. You’ll create your own version of a classic, and that’s just the beginning. You’ll set your own target! To infinity, and beyond!
The programme for the four-day workshop is as follows:
- During the first day we’ll introduce video game design and explain what a video game actually is. We’ll also answer question such as ‘What are the parts that make up a video game?’, and we’ll look at the mathematical and physical components which we need to develop one. We’ll discuss GameFlow, and the cycle of a video game. We’ll analyse all the documentation related to video game design and we’ll study different examples of video games. To close the day, we’ll introduce UNITY 3D, the chosen platform for developing the video games.
- During the second and third days we’ll be ready to develop the legendary video game PONG in its entirety. We’ll design the environment, gameplay, player controls, AI and ball behaviour, as well as the sound effects.
- On the fourth and final day we’ll modify the games we’ve each created e.g. adding special effects, changing the rules, etc.
Note: We recommend that participants bring a laptop. If you don’t have one, write to ubik@tabakalera.eu
