How I Learned to Overcome My Fear and Love Arik Sharon, Avi Mograbi, Israel, 1997, OV with spanish subtitles, 61’.
“Encuentros del Otro Cine” documentary festival (EDOC), Quito, 2004. An orgy of documentary films on misfortune, poverty, conflict and injustice around the world, all exhibited by their makers from a single perspective: this is the absolute truth, and this how we tell it. Among all these films, there is one by an Israeli director, Avi Mograbi, who we’ve never heard of. Well, let’s go and see. Our first impression: this guy makes films by filming himself, with a home movie camera, and we think it’s a hell of a film. Second impression: this guy’s not telling us what to think, but setting out his own doubts and conflicts. Third impression: why does this film seem revolutionary when none of the others do? Come and see it and we’ll talk about it!
