Igor Rezola

 

A trained welder, Igor Rezola Iztueta worked for several years in the metal sector. During that same period (1996-2007), he developed his artistic practice in urban art while still working in industry. He left factory work in 2007 to study for a degree in Fine Arts at the University of the Basque Country. That moment marked the beginning of a second period in his artistic career. In 2018, he gained his PhD from the University of the Basque Country with the thesis Lanaren kontrako (beste) lan saiakera bat. He now balances his artistic practice with teaching and research. Igor is a part-time professor in the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of the Basque Country. He is a member of the AKMEKA research group and collaborator with the AKME conference and the LAN Festival Audiovisual Obrero. His artistic practice comprises two main areas. The first is related to graffiti, muralism and urban art. The second mainly revolves around the notion of work and questions linked to this concept, its meaning, its function, and the different effects and consequences it has in contemporary societies. This multidisciplinary artist draws on a vast array of media and techniques when putting together his pieces.
