IKUSMIRA BERRIAK 2024: NEW RESIDENTS
Session of short films signed by the directors selected in the new edition of Ikusmira Berriak, who these days are preparing their new film projects in San Sebastián.
La voz rosa, Marieke Elzerman, 26’, (2023)
A young primary school teacher searches for her disappearing voice in a foreign town. She crosses paths with other women ready to help her find what she has lost. Interweaving observational documentary and fiction, Marieke Elzerman narrates a journey where empathy and self-awareness are entangled in a beautiful feminine-universe fresco. Masterfully shot in film with a powerful interpretation by Naomi Pacifique, La voz rosa stands out for its cinematic narration.
Mar(i)cona, Cande Lázaro, 13’ (2021)
In Serranía Baja de Cuenca two types of almonds are grown: larguetas and marconas. When the artist went to pluck the almond trees with their family, instead of hearing "marconas" he heard "mariconas". What difficulties do queer people have in rural areas? How does dissidence move within the margins of the territory itself? How do you understand your own dissident identity in a space that has always been presented to you as hostile and harmful? These are some of the questions that Cande Lázaro Cienfuegos raises in this return to the village after living in the city, where they begin to read themself from a chosen space that can also be safe.
Noizko basoa, Mikele Landa, 23’ (2022)
A forest starts over. A town recalls the landscape it never saw. Hands, hoes, and boots that stir up the dry earth to bring to the surface the trees that once inhabited Ulla. Here the river is constantly born and murmurs an already forgotten language. Who will live in this forest when it exists? Can a forest be planted? Will someone give it a name? Where does a town begin?
Ancora lucciole, Maria Elorza, 14’ (2018)
In 1972, in one of his best-known articles, Pier Paolo Pasolini spoke of the disappearance of fireflies. A few months later he was murdered. Since then the fireflies have continued to disappear. But there are still people who remember them.
