Ilan Manouach

Ilan Manouach Musician, book editor, and multi-disciplinary artist with specific interest in post-digital and conceptual comics. He is currently completing his doctorate at Aalto University in Helsinki (dr. Craig Dworkin), where he is examining the intersections between contemporary comics, art, and poetry. His work attests to the importance of comics as a material medium of self-reflection, unaffiliated with any all-encompassing art history. He has published some twenty books, presented individual exhibitions at festivals, museums, and galleries around the world, and his work is included in the Ubuweb digital archive. Ilan is most widely known for Shapereader, a tactile system of communication that he created for individuals with reduced vision or blindness.
