The thread of this series of activities is based around various aspects of what has been called "the colonial archive", particularly regarding the visual material, both in film and in photographs. These aspects are: the colonial memory and archive material; the management of and narrative material in digital files and "social life" and future of the archive material.

PROGRAMME

May 5, Thursday, 10am-2pm, Workshop

Archival violence. Workshop on colonial photography archives. Presented by Inés Plasencia.

Inés Plasencia is a researcher, whose work focuses on the photography and digital archives of Equatorial Guinea. For the exhibition The Day After, she collaborated with artist Maryam Jafri to develop a case study on Equatorial Guinea
This workshop is intended to be a discussion area for individuals –not necessarily specialists– interested in the history of photography, colonial history and visual culture. During the session we will open up these themes in a non-academic space, Tabakalera, in order to avoid creating a hierarchy of forms of knowledge and experiences. One of the aims of the workshop is to examine in greater depth the mediation, narration and discourses in institutional and personal archives, and, at the same time, to detect the implications and mistrust surrounding free access to these materials. Finally, in the same line, we want to debate positioning on memory, its imagined communities and collective forgettings.

Please, fill out the registration form to take part.

May 6, Friday, 5pm-8pm, Z Hall
