The main interests of Jaime Iregui’s artistic proposal are spatial questions. In recent years his work has been concerned with a expanded conception of space in practices related to processes of exhibition and discussion in the public sphere. Between 1975 and 1984 he resided in Madrid, Barcelona and New York, where he studied and had some shows.
In 1984 he returned to Bogotá, where together with other artists he founded independent artistic exhibition spaces like Magma (1985-87), Gaula (1990-91), Tándem (1993-98) and Espacio Vacío (1997-2003). In the year 2000 he founded Esfera Pública, a discussion space on Internet. He has a Master’s Degree in History and Theory of Art and Architecture (Universidad Nacional). He has participated in several international meetings, amongst them, the 1st International Encounter of Independent Spaces in Marseilles, France, El Quinto Encuentro Trama in Buenos Aires, and in 2007 he participated with [esferapública], in Documenta 12 in the project documenta magazines. He currently provides discussion spaces in the public space with the project Parlamentos; he works as an Associate Professor at the Universidad de los Andes; he is editor of the discussion space on Internet [esferapública], where he seeks to promote reflection, dialogue and debate about artistic and institutional practices, as well as to highlight contemporary artistic processes with an independent character.
