JON GARAÑO, San Sebastian, 1974
He studied journalism and advertising at the University of the Basque Country and film in Sarobe and San Diego (USA). In 2001 he co-founded the production company Moriarti, where he works as a scriptwriter, director and/or producer.
The films on which he has worked as a director, scriptwriter or producer have participated in numerous international festivals and have won more than 450 awards. These include: 12 Goya awards and 31 nominations; two nominations to represent Spain at the Oscars; Special Jury Prize at the San Sebastian International Film Festival as well as the Silver Shell for best direction, the Best Screenplay Award and the FIPRESCI Award; the Forqué Award for best film; an EFA Award; a Platinum Award; and the Sant Jordi Award for best film.
Together with his partners Aitor Arregi and Jose Mari Goenaga, he co-directed the feature films “80 egunean” (2010), “Loreak” (2014), “Handia” (2017), “La Trinchera Infinita” (2019) and “Marco” (2024) and the series “Cristóbal Balenciaga” (2024) for Disney+. He has also written and directed several short films and documentaries for television and produced the feature-length documentaries “Lucio” (2007) and “El método Arrieta” (2013).
