Jon Mantzisidor

 

Born in 1973 in Zumaia (Gipuzkoa), he has a degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the UPV/EHU, and he currently lives in Bilbao. His work has focused on three main themes: comics, visual art and musical performance. After 15 years of collaboration in magazines and newspapers producing comics, he has moved away from this work in recent years to focus on written texts. However, he also continues to work in the other disciplines: in the visual field, he has moved from the initial creation of objects and installations to photography, which has recently become his new priority. With regard to music, in addition to having participated in groups such as Karidadeko Benta, Gora Japon and others whose work is based on ad hoc free improvisation, he also participates in Txaranga Urretabizkaia. In his career as a solo musician, where he is known as Jon Mantxi, improvisation and gesture have also gained importance, often approaching what is understood as performance art.

His work has been exhibited and his concerts performed in the following venues: Teatro Arriaga, Bilbao (2020); Galería Aire, Bilbao (2019); Espacio Cruce, Madrid (2018); La Canibal, Barcelona (2017); Ecuries de Baroja, Anglet, France (2017); Málaga Film Festival (2015); Anciens Abbatories, Billere, France (2006); Frontera Corozal, Mexico (2006), Montehermoso, Vitoria-Gasteiz (2005), and Galerie Paolo Boselli, Brussels (2003).
