Joseba Irazoki

A versatile and restless musician, elegant and pragmatic, as interested in composing as in improvisation, Joseba Irazoki has left his mark on a heterogeneous amalgam of projects, adventures and intentions that have ended up expelling or more precisely, liberating, his most introspective and personal self in the work that he has dared to sign with his first name. With his work, Joseba Irazoki has opened wide the up until now sealed doors of a sincere and direct, meticulous and elaborate universe, cradled in a careful study of traditional Basque folklore, Anglo-Saxon pop and folk, and experimentation on six strings, but also in an eager search for a distinction, a specific identity that the Navarrese musician has found by resorting to his own resources. Thus basing himself on imaginative guitars, on his capacity to create loops full of naturalness, as if they had always floated among us, with a frank, confident and exciting voice, and on the capacity to corner great melodies, deforming Basque lyrical poetry and recreating a sweetness that is a priori unthinkable in its rocky sound, Joseba Irazoki has carried out, with admirable solvency, a daring and sensible project, immediate and at the same time riddled with admirable nooks and crannies.

Parallel to his releases as Joseba Irazoki, this artist has developed a list of projects among which we could highlight Do, maybe because it is the most developed up until now and without a doubt, because it includes work of the magnitude of Tokian Tokiko or Pertsona and its stunning acoustic-electric alchemy in the shape of fluctuating collages. This project with international repercussions responds to the more experimental side of his work, guitar landscapes partially based on improvisation.
