Juha is a farmer married to Marja, a beautiful woman much younger than him. One day, a businessman named Shemeikka, whose car has broken down, comes home to ask for help. While Juha repairs the car, Shemeikka tries to convince Marja to escape with him to the big city, promising him wealth and a life full of emotions.

The two films that constitute the object of sounding of this double session are Johan (1921), by Mauritz Stiller, and Juha (1999), by Aki Kaurismäki, both adaptations of the novel Juha (1911), by the Finnish writer Juhani Aho. The original story of the novel tells the vicissitudes of the love triangle formed by Juha, a farmer, Marja, his wife, and Shemeikka, a businessman. Stiller and Kaurismäki's films raise a reflection on the marital commitment and conflict resulting from the differences between the rural lifestyle, represented by Juha and Marja, and the city lifestyle, represented by Shemeikka. The live sound of both films will not only be articulated as an approximation to the original story by Juhani Aho, but a dialogue with the images, structures, rhythms or narrative thread of the films can also be established, beyond this axis common theme.
