Performance La Fiesta, by Marc Vives
Based on a lecture by Roger Caillois with the same title from 1939, some fragments of this text are read, reread, mumbled and synthesized until a sung phrase is improvised. The search and location of this “song” in space is the core of the proposal. There is no goal, only process. The action enters a cycle of repetition at the same time that through the voice and the body the relationship with the space is tightened. La Fiesta is never repeated, it is recreated from scratch performing each space, it is the protagonist. The phrases and words are broken and the physical condition is forced towards exhaustion, fragilizing the speech and provoking an intimacy with the audience. The text speaks of an ancestral party in which the dedication to the regular life and daily work was sustained by the excesses and licenses in the francachelas, and how these were precisely the moment of communion of the groups. It is therefore that place of exception, which art could occupy today, where the political event takes place and the vows of a community are renewed.
