19:00 Lady Windermere’s Fan, Ernst Lubitsch, USA, 1925, 98', 35mm, silent, intertitles in English, subtitled in Spanish.
This is Lubitsch at his best: taking as a reference the play of the same name by Oscar Wilde, the result is a heartfelt, muddled-up comedy set in sophisticated scenarios, apparently light, but including a certain subtle irony able to pick apart all the clichés and common places.
Mrs Erlynne's appearance in the lives of the Windermeres ends up disrupting their peaceful lives. Firstly, she confesses a family secret to Lord Windermere that takes the shape of blackmail. Secondly, her presence at Lady Windermere's birthday party will set off suspicion and jealousy, as there is talk of a love affair between Mrs Erlynne and Lord Windermere.
