Lazzaro, an exceptionally good young peasant lives in La Inviolata, a village that has remained cut off from the world and controlled by the Marchesa Alfonsina de Luna. Life as a peasant there has never changed; they are exploited and, in turn, take advantage of Lazzaro’s goodness.

One summer, Lazzaro becomes friends with Tancredi, the Marchesa’s son. A friendship so precious between them will blossom that it will make Lazzaro travel through time to discover the modern world.
