She earned her Degree in Philosophy from the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain), and a Doctorate in Computer Sciences (Artificial Intelligence) from the University of Paris-XI (France).

Her emotion modelling work began in 1995 as a post-doctorate in the Trodney Brooks group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge (MA, USA). Since then, her inter-disciplinary research work has focused on interactions between motivations, emotions and cognition, and "incarnate" action, using autonomous and social robots, and simulations in artificial living environments, playing a pioneering role in the development of the artificial systems emotion modelling community.
