Los mejores temas, Nicolás Pereda, Mexico, Canada, Netherlands, 2012, 100', OV, DCP
Gabino lives with his mother Tere and earns his living peddling huge-selling music hits on the streets of Mexico City. And rehearsing; rehearsing a lot, trying to memorize the names of the songs, to more easily sell them. One day, after an absence of fifteen years, his father Emilio returns home.
Nicolas Pereda says: “After making some films with the same actors playing similar roles, I decided to make a film on the process of representation. That opened a world of new possibilities, including rehearsals, the repetition of acting rituals and interaction between fiction characters and the actors playing those characters. I continued with that search in the middle of the shoot, substituting one of the actors, putting my uncle in his role. My uncle entered the film as a documentary object, who has to relate to the fiction characters, who act as though he were one of them”.
