María Belmonte Barrenetxea

María Belmonte Barrenetxea studied History at the University of Deusto and Anthropology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. In 1995 she gained a PhD in the Department of Social Anthropology at the University of the Basque Country with a thesis on the History of Religions. She also studied languages and is a professional technical and literary translator and an interpreter. As a writer she has published Peregrinos de la belleza – Viajeros por Italia y Grecia (Pilgrims of Beauty — Travellers in Italy and Greece) (2015) and Los senderos del mar (The Paths of the Sea) (2017), both through Editorial Acantilado. Born in Bilbao, she has since lived in several cities, on a Mediterranean island, and currently in a (fairly remote) part of Alt Penedès (Barcelona).
