Mattin is an artist, a musician and theorist that works conceptually with noise and improvisation. Through his practice, he explores performative forms of estrangement as a way of contending structural alienation. In 2017, Mattin was invited to participate in documenta14 in Kassel and Athens. In 2010, he edited the book Ruido y capitalismo together with Anthony Iles, and this year Urbanomic will publish his book Social Dissonance.
Mattin's contribution to this exhibition is a text that Pierre Bal-Blanc has written as part of the project Expanding Concert that has been taking place in Lisbon since 2019. In this text Bal-Blanc contextualises Mattin's practice by considering the points of connection with other artists participating in this exhibition such as Pauline Oliveros, Eric Satie and Alvin Lucier.
