Maui Alena is a film enthusiast, populariser, programmer, and researcher. He has been welcomed as a specialist in Audiovisual and Film Project Curating and Development by Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola (Spain), and a comprehensive film and television producer for the Cinematographic Research Center (Argentina).
From 2015 to 2024, Alena has worked as an Audiovisual Arts Coordinator at the Buenos Aires Young Art Biennale, whose last five editions saw 155 directors developing their films, while being part of the Recoleta Culture Centre of Buenos Aires’s Content Department. For the last eight years, Alena has managed the showing of 120 Argentine films, alongside directors such as Raymond Depardon, João Moreira Salles, and James Benning with their accompanying works.
Alena has previously worked as an Art Producer and Coordinator for six editions of Bafici’s Professional Area, assisting the programming team for seven editions of the Mar del Plata Festival, and being responsible for the Buenos Aires Film Commission, where Alena organised commercial missions for the Cannes and Berlin festivals on two occasions. Between 2018 and 2021, Alena coordinated the RAW grant (Residencies Arché-Work, created by Doclisboa and the Márgenes Madrid Festival) for films in development, as well as Ibero-American criticism and research projects. Alena worked to select projects for the Márgenes Madrid Festival, and coordinated the 2022 and 2023 editions of Zinebi Networking in Bilbao.
In 2022, Alena published the book La casa de los Anfibios in Spain and Argentina, and in 2021, he launched the released film site homeagain.tv
