Melanie Gilligan

Melanie Gilligan works in a way that reconceives television drama and its links to various non-fictional forms in order to discuss contemporary political conditions. In her long-form video works, the artist investigates sociopolitical contexts, especially the systemic relationships between labor, economy and politics, as well as the individual’s role within this network of relationships. She studied fine art at Central Saint Martins, London, and was a fellow at the Whitney Independent Study Program, New York. She is a PhD candidate at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. Solo exhibitions include those at Kunsthaus Glarus; The Wattis, San Francisco; Künstlerhaus, Halle für Kunst & Medien, Graz; Trondheim Kunstmuseum; de Appel arts centre, Amsterdam; Casco Art Institute, Utrecht; De Hallen, Haarlem; Chisenhale Gallery, London; Cologne Kunstverein; Banff Centre; Presentation House Gallery, Vancouver; Justina M.
