Taking the title from a verse by Rimbaud, the French filmmaker Eustache, perhaps the greatest of ‘the young French directors who were going to change the world' (and perhaps they did), made this film-memoire, his latest feature film, his own foray into the countryside, into nature, into the wild transition from childhood to adolescence, two years after directing La Maman et la putain (1973), his distinctive Parisian manifesto on love-not love.
