Minotauro, Nicolás Pereda, Mexico, 2015, 56’, JB, DCP
Three characters who live and sleep in an apartment in Mexico City. This is a chamber piece, small, subtle, sundrenched, halfway between dream (what happens within) and the positions and bodies of the characters (what happens without). Paco and Gabino live like they were two reptiles: just letting time slip by, in an unending continuum of sleeping and waking up. Until Luisa comes to live with them. They’re three now, and everything has to be recomposed, to forge a new equilibrium, like an ancient Egyptian pyramid.
Film-performance, film-sculpture, film-light, and Nicolas Pereda pulls off yet another remarkable feat of freedom and experimentation.
