Mones com la Becky, Joaquim Jordà, Núria Villazán, Spain, 1999, 97’
While mental patients from the Martutene Therapeutic Community prepare a performance about the life of Portuguese psychiatrist António Egas Moniz, who developed the surgical procedure known as lobotomy to treat schizophrenia in 1935, filmmakers Jordá and Villazán (once mental patients in his life) reflect on modern psychiatric therapies. The title refers to the chimpanzee Becky, whom American physiologists John Fulton and C.F. Jacobsen removed the frontal lobes to modify their aggressive behavior in the 1930s. (FILMAFFINITY)
Throughout the film the directors, the crew and the residents of Martutene prepare a theater recreating Moniz's life. They live together that creative process that is shared, helps their own and joint knowledge and recognition, and is to a certain extent liberating.
A great film to put into context a Library Day that this year wants to put on the table the topic Libraries, creators of content, in collaboration.
