Network, Sidney Lumet, USA, 1976, OV with spanish subtitles, 121’.
Network strikes me as being more topical now than ever. Back in the 1970s, script-writer Paddy Chayevsky and director Sidney Lumet managed to create an exact scrutiny analysis of ambition in the consumer society, of the superficial values of the media and spectacle culture. I discovered this brutally satirical film when I was living in London and I think in some way it influenced my most recent short film, Foxes. Because Network is a film that always keeps close to its characters; however twisted they may be, they are depicted as being products of a specific society. That’s an idea I find interesting and close to home
