The interconnection between Art, Science, Technology, and Society in Spain: a journey through the FECYT’s white book

The Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) presents the White Book on the Interconnection between Art, Science, Technology, and Society in Spain, an update to the White Book promoted by FECYT between 2006 and 2007 as proposed by its Commission on Humanities. The main objective of this revision is to produce a more transversal and collective perspective on the Art-Science-Technology-Society (ACTS) sphere that is adapted to its own reality and continuous change. To do this, the FECYT has brought together a work group of specialists in this area that has analysed the current state of the ACTS sphere together with numerous inter-disciplinary agents. The methodology followed in the White Book includes a selection of case studies on both a national and international level, as well as a diagnostic of the current situation based on case studies, document analysis, interviews, and work sessions in groups or through consultations with specialists.

This way, some 17 years later, the White Book has been adapted to a new context that has allowed the state of knowledge on the interconnections between art, science, technology, and society in our country to be identified, incorporating new areas such as ACTS agents that were not addressed in the previous version, analysing the challenges and opportunities that this interconnection offers, and establishing recommendations and policies to encourage exchange between different areas and disciplines, promoting the creation of projects and programmes that explore the trans-disciplinary possibilities of this interconnection, encouraging citizen participation, and the communication and dissemination of science, among other aims contained in the publication.
