He studied computer engineering and philosophy with a focus on philosophy of technology. He wrote his doctoral thesis under the tutelage of French philosopher Bernard Stiegler (1952-2020) at Goldsmiths College, University of London, and obtained his habilitation in Philosophy at Leuphana University in Germany. Hui is the author of several essays that have been translated into a dozen languages, including Fragmentar el futuro (Caja Negra, 2020), On the Existence of Digital Objects (Dark Matter, 2023 [2016]), The Question Concerning Technology in China: An Essay in Cosmotechnics (2016, forthcoming in Black Box), Recursivity and Contingency (Black Box, 2022 [2019]) and Arts and Cosmotechnics (2021). Hui is co-editor of 30 Years after Les Immatériaux: Art, Science and Theory (2015) and editor of Philosophy after Automation (Philosophy Today, 2021), among others. Since 2014, Hui has been the initiator and coordinator of the Philosophy and Technology Research Network, an international network for research exchange and collaborations, and has been a member of the jury of the Berggruen Prize for Philosophy and Culture since 2020. He is currently professor of philosophy and professor at Erasmus University Rotterdam.
