ANHELL69, Theo Montoya, Colombia, 2022, 75'

On the occasion of the exhibition You want it to be art and I want it to be magazine. A conversation between HILARY LLOYD and MANY OF THEN, the editors of the publication, ANTONIO MACARRO and PEDRO CANICOBA, present a film session that accompanies the exhibition program.

A funeral car cruises the streets of Medellín, while a young director tells the story of his past in this violent and conservative city. He remembers the pre- production of his first film, a B-movie with ghosts. The young queer scene of Medellín is casted for the film, but the main protagonist dies of a heroin overdose at the age of 21, just like many friends of the director. ANHELL69 explores the dreams, doubts and fears of an annihilated generation, and the struggle to carry on making cinema.

The exhibition, in addition to establishing a dialogue between the artist and the founders of MANY OF THEM, coexist spatially and temporally with the edition of the tenth issue of the magazine under the title of MANY OF THEM INHABITS IN-BETWEENESS. And it is right in these spaces of illegibility between the visible and the invisible, the positive and the negative, the human and the digital, presence and absence, consciousness and dream, voids in which our identities -individual or collective- become, are constantly rediscovered and renegotiated, where the film ANHELL69 by the director THE MONTOYA is settled, which he himself defines not only as a fiction film, but as a film without borders, without genre, a trans film.
