Julián Barón trained as an industrial engineer and worked as a quality manager in a road signage company until quitting in 2007 and joining Colectivo Blank Paper.

Over the last decade he has developed a visual body of work which responds to a turbulent socio-political context, bringing together various lines of action which connect his work (including photographs, video, sound collage, installations and books) with teaching and the coordination of education projects.

In 2011 he published his first book, C.E.N.S.U.R.A., which received an honourable mention at the First Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards. He was nominated by Fannie Escoulen for the Discovery Prize-Rencontres d’Arles 2015, at which he presented a visual installation of three of his projects: C.E.N.S.U.R.A., TAUROMAQUIA and Los últimos días vistos del rey.

His work has been exhibited in the Centre d’Art Pompidou-Metz, Netherlands Fotomuseum, Get It Louder Beijing, ChangJiang Biennale, Chongqing (China) and Arts Santa Mònica, among others. C.E.N.S.U.R.A won the Open Series category at the 2016 Magnum Photography Awards.
