Texto Destacado
This initiative proposes an artistic and cultural exchange between two Basque and two Sahrawi artists. Each pair is made up of one Basque artist and one Sahrawi who will create a work of art with the concept of resistance as their central theme. The artists will address their works towards the unique aspects of Basque and Sahrawi realities, but with a global focus, understanding that without forgetting their uniqueness, local challenges respond to challenges that must be faced by humanity and the planet.

This residency is positioned as an experiment, a crossroads of language, corporeality, relationships with space, different soci0-political situations, and ways of making and understanding art and the world. It is a project that is committed to the core to an exchange and dialogue between two peoples.

The first phase of the residencies were carried out at the Sahrawi School of Arts in the Sahrawi Refugee Camps in Tinduf (Algeria) in October 2015. The second will be carried out in Tabakalera between May and June of this year.

The project's artistic direction is shared between artist Federico Guzmán and Universidad del País Vasco (UPV/EHU) School of Fine Arts professor and artist, Oihana Garro.

The works resulting from this experience will be displayed in June in San Sebastian.
