Classical Period centers on Cal, an erudite lover of books and classical culture, who spends his days studying and meeting like-minded friends around Philadelphia.  At its center is a lengthy discussion of the fifth canto of Dante’s Purgatory in the Divine Comedy.  The film considers the different ways literature can be used to keep the world out or let it in.
