Professor of Philosophy and Andrew Mellon Faculty Fellow at Gettysburg College. She gained a philosophy degree at the University of Seville, a Master of East Asian Studies at the Autonomous University of Madrid, a Master of Chinese Philosophy from the National Taiwan University and completed her PhD in Sinology at Princeton (2017), where she was awarded the Laurence Rockefeller Graduate Prize Fellowship by the University Centre for Human Values. Mercedes received the Young Scholar Award 2017 from the European Association for Chinese Philosophy. Her research focuses on the intersection between metaphysics, social philosophy and ethics, particularly questions on action, uncertainty, autonomy, control and liberty.
