Suzanne Miller

My choreography is rooted in non-hierarchical approaches to dance making.  It begins with the body and interacts with people, place and history. I currently perform through my company Suzanne Miller & Allan Paivio Productions since 1998, touring nationally and internationally since 1985. I share the Artistic Direction with my life partner and collaborator – composer/musician Allan Paivio.  I have experience with every facet of dance production from the initial concept through to its’ realization in public. My repertoire includes over fifty original works developed for theatres as well as for uncommon sites over five continents.

During my residency at Tabakalera, I will be preparing choreographic materials for a commission from Danztaz collaborating with their company of 12 dancers based in ErRentria in March 2020. I aim to produce a group dance that translates pre-selected articles taken from the UNVIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS into movement using language and more specifically - an invented alphabet to shape the choreography. In form of a tribute, the dance is ultimately devoted to humanity by commemorating our rights and freedoms as individuals.
