At this first meeting, we make a #Picadatos type call, i.e. convert non-computerized data to other formats that can be processed and used. It is a first meeting so that anyone interested can join the Open Working Group on Open Data in the spirit of platforms such as: Where do my taxes go? and Who’s in charge? by Civio. For the group’s first meeting, the proposal is to work on and publish public budgets.
Municipal budgets are now public, but they are published in a way that makes it difficult to query them. The aim of this event is to convert the data into a clear format with graphics, search engines and filters, etc. To do so, we will use the CIVIO platform now used by a number of local authorities. As it would take one person on his/her own a long time to transfer all the information, the purpose of the meeting is to bring together several volunteers to copy and process all the information faster.
Making data accessible is important but not enough. With this premise, the idea is to start putting together a group of people to work on the use of open data and different ways to make it accessible, carrying out different activities to provide all citizens with objective information that can be understood easily.
