Metodo del discurso (2011) is a clear example of the creativity presiding over Fernando Sánchez Castillo’s work. Based on the famous treatise by French philosopher René Descartes, Discourse on the Method, Sánchez Castillo consciously alters the terms in order to show that the absolute truth and certainties do not exist, and the need to question the official versions and axioms established by progress. Contemporary art as a tool to show that things can be different thanks to freedom of thought and action, absent in other aspects of our lives.
The alteration of how things are used postulated by Marcel Duchamp is very present in the exhibition by Fernando Sánchez Castillo at the CAC Málaga. The central piece, made specifically for this space, alters the usual functionality of a bomb disposal robot to turn it into an artistic instrument with which to build a series of sculptures, paintings and video installations. Thus, art and politics are combined to show the spectator a new reality, the other side of power. This site specific project is a defence of dialogue and non-violence; robots as a symbol of the intellectual revolution that restores to art the ability it has always had to transform society.
This work is part of Tabakalera's first online exhibition Hyperconectadxs.
