After a brief presentation on the interrelationship between the different lectures, this introduction will focus on different uses, meanings and anthropological implications of three stimulants in their various comings and goings: cocoa, native and colonial alcohol and, in particular, iboga in the colonial period and the post-colonial globalisation era.
