Artists in residence Cai Tomos and Itxaso Díaz intend to form a group to study the body, its stories and its context. In this workshop, they will use video as a medium to create video portraits of the participants, with the aim of capturing the experience, movement and emotions of the body.
The stories of life – the body’s stories – are the starting point for approaching the idea of “portraits in movement” through filmic and choreographic processes.
The workshop will revolve around three elements:
- The relationship with our body and its stories.
- The relationship of our body with our environment.
- How the medium of video can help us to show this.
Over a period of 10 days daily meetings will be held that will focus attention on developing an inner connection through external expression. The exercises will focus on the experience of the body with the aim of enabling each participant to create their own video portrait.
In movement, we all use a language of our own. It manifests itself in us as we speak and even before we speak [and after we have stopped speaking]. It exists in each one of us, under our skin. Body language, gestures and postures become perfected during the time our body connects with the world around us.
Registration for the workshop is until 10 September.
Tomos and Díaz gave a similar workshop in 2016 in Azkuna Zentroa, named Prototipoak. A documentary about the process of the workshop can be seen here.
